There was shock amongst the waiting press today as Opposition leader Peter Dutton did an actual backflip on stage, badly injuring himself.

Journalists and onlookers were stunned as the 6-foot-1 Liberal launched himself into the air, spun backwards and crashed into a table full of coffee and cake, cutting his head on a broken mug. 

As blood streamed from his temple, the one-time assistant treasurer climbed to his feet, shrugged off those trying to help and did another backflip, coming down heavily on his left shoulder, which made a loud cracking sound.

With what is believed to be a broken shoulder and severe concussion, the ex-minister for defence then did yet another backflip, sideswiping his lectern and landing on a camera tripod, which pierced his left lung. 

Bloody and bruised and struggling to breathe, the former immigration minister then readied himself for another backflip before being subdued by on-site security.

Screaming, “Let me backflip! Let me backflip!” Dutton was eventually dragged to a waiting ambulance.
